After receiving his bachelor's degree from Grand Valley State University in 1974, Wayne Meeusen enlisted in the US Army and was immediately selected for officer training. He spent the next twenty-one years as an active-duty officer, commanding troops in the United States, South America, and Europe, including during the conflict in Bosnia in the 1990's.

With his combination of education, skill, work ethic, integrity, and sense of service, Wayne earned many honors from the United States Army, including medals for meritorious service and national defense, and recognitions from both NATO and the United Nations for distinction in military assignments overseas.

Meeusen retired from active duty with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, then went on to both private security assignments for NASA and US military and industrial facilities, and to teaching at the University of Colorado as an Assistant Professor of Military Science. During retirement, Meeusen taught ROTC courses in high schools around his hometown in Colorado, where he was also active in his church and in charity work.

Dr. Hentemann's career in the pharmaceutical industry has been one of distinction and leadership. Upon earning his doctorate degree from Purdue University, Dr. Hentemann went on to make contributions in the industry that have included work for AstraZeneca, Array Biopharma, and Bayer Healthcare as a medicinal chemist and drug discovery program leader. Dr. Hentemann's work in the pharmaceutical industry culminated in leadership roles at Novartis Instiute for Biomedical Research as the Director of Oncology Program Management, and most recently as Vice President of Program leadership at Foghorn Therapeutics in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

During his nineteen years in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Hentemann has successfully led teams that have advanced seven programs into clinical stage research, including Aliquopa, a drug that has been approved for the treatment of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and Ipatasertib, a Phase 3 clinical candidate for the treatment of breast cancer.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Hentemann has co-authored more than thirty patents and publications, co-organized multiple chemistry symposiums, and has been a reviewer for the Journal of Organic Chemistry.

In addition to his PhD, Hentemann was a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Postdoctoral fellow at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and has been the recipient of numerous awards, including AstraZeneca Infection Award for Collaboration, 2013; Bayer Special Recognition Award, (2003-2006); and Purdue University's PLF Chemistry Research Award.

As an accomplished engineer and researcher, Dr. Hutchins has established a reputable career in cyber security, risk assessment, statistical analysis, and sustainability performance. Her distinguished career has included work in several different divisions at Sandia National Laboratories. Dr. Hutchins' work has included leading a team cultivating deep understanding of various aspects of cybersecurity, including operating systems, software, virtual systems, and hardware. Previously, she led a Department of Defense project, developing and deploying analytics that identify suspicious and malicious behavior on their communications networks (2016-18). She led a multidisciplinary team on the U.S. Energy Resiliency to Cyber Attack and Failure project (2014-16), demonstrating Sandia's cross-mission ability to model cyber-initiated events on national energy infrastructure.

Dr. Hutchins has operational risk assessment and statistical methods in several areas. In 2014, Hutchins co-developed a risk assessment course in support of the Department of Homeland Security and International Atomic Energy Agency. She had the opportunity to instruct the course to government officials in Athens, Vienna, Melbourne, and Zimbabwe. Additionally, she spearheaded the Key Performance Indicators of Consumer Products' Sustainability project (2011-13) a the University of California, Berkeley; it's results were implemented in a large retailer's survey of 2500 suppliers.

Beyond earning a PhD, Hutchins was a postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, Department of Mechanical Engineering. She completed a Doctoral Exchange at the Nelson Mandela School of Public Policy at Southern University, Baton Rouge. She published numerous academic articles, including "Framework for Identifying Cybersecurity Risks in Manufacturing" and "An Exploration of Measures of Social Sustainability and Their Application to Supply Chain Decisions". Hutchins was also the recipient of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) 2015 Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award.

Sandra Hughes O’Brien, attended Fennville Public Schools from Kindergarten to 12^th grade, which formed the educational foundation upon which she built her future. In the years following graduation, Sandra went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Grand Valley State University and her law degree from Michigan State University College of Law. 

In November 2012, Sandra Hughes O’Brien was elected to serve an eight-year term on Wayne State University’s Board of Governors. She was the first person of Latinx heritage to be elected statewide to the University’s Board of Governors. In years previous, she was twice elected the Board Chair.  

A passionate public servant, Sandra has devoted her time to helping traditionally underrepresented students. Upon taking office to Wayne State University’s Board of Governors, she immediately fought and helped to implement a Tuition Equity Policy for undocumented Michigan students, Sandra has continually worked to improve admission standards to achieve a more representative student body.  

In addition to her work at Wayne State, Sandra previously served as Treasurer and Vice Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, and also served as Chair of the Hispanic/Latino Caucus for four years.  As a practicing attorney, she has worked as a Deputy County Clerk/Register of Deeds and has been an active member of the Michigan Bar Association and several professional organizations, speaking frequently on the topic of women and minorities in law careers.  

A frequent speaker and panelist at conferences related to education, empowerment, and inclusion, Sandra has also served on numerous community and professional boards and committees. Her hard work was formally recognized in 2019 when she was named “An Esteemed Woman of Michigan”.

Dignity, grace, selflessness, survivor, consummate volunteer, and service giver are among the many words used to describe Margaret Sessions. Margaret, who graduated from Fennville High School in 1956, has established a legacy few have dared to make. The life of a volunteer is one that is often without recompense; one that has no monetary gain or even recognition. Margaret forged a path dedicated to serving others, tirelessly working behind closed doors, and no matter how trying her personal life, she always chose to put others first.  

Throughout her journey, Margaret served countless individuals and collaborated with many agencies within local communities. Her selfless commitment to serve her neighbor, enabled her to coordinate countless activities for agencies such as Christian Neighbors, Allegan County Commission on Aging, the Fennville Goose Festival, the Fennville Fire Department, the Community Athletic Center, and many others. Beginning in 2005, Margaret began making prayer blankets called “Lovies”. Since then, the Chief of Police, AMR and the Fire Departments in Fennville, Ganges, and Clyde Township have helped to distribute well over six hundred “Lovies" to provide comfort for individuals in need or battling illness.

In addition to her volunteerism efforts, Margaret served as the Clyde Township Board Treasurer and served on the Fennville Board of Education for twenty-six years. She was also the Director of the Beleiko Trust for three years and a Lector of Eucharist Ministry and Funeral Coordinator for St. Peter’s Church in Douglas, Michigan.

Beyond her career and humanitarian work, Margaret has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Goose Festival Grand Marshal Award (2016), Allegan County Spirit of Women Award (2014), Allegan County Homemaker of the Year Award (1970), Senior Times Community Service Volunteer Award, and a two-time Clifford E. Paine Volunteerism Award recipient.

James R. Bellenger's journey from excelling in mathematics at Fennville High School to becoming a distinguished figure in the field of geospatial intelligence is truly impressive. Graduating fifth in the Class of 1978 and winning prestigious awards in mathematics set the stage for his academic success. His bachelor's degree in surveying engineering from Ferris State College, earned with high distinction, laid the foundation for his career in the field.

Continuing his academic pursuits, Bellenger pursued a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, further enhancing his expertise. His career with the Federal Government spanned an impressive 35 years, during which he served as a Department of Defense civilian with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).

The NGA's mission to provide geospatial intelligence to a wide range of stakeholders highlights the critical role Mr. Bellenger played in supporting policymakers, military personnel, intelligence professionals, and first responders. His dedication and contributions to the field were recognized with numerous accolades, including a Distinguished Individual Service Award and multiple Distinguished Group Awards from the NGA.

To underscore his exceptional achievements and commitment to excellence throughout his career he was inducted into the government's National Geospatial Intelligence Hall of Fame Class of 2022.

Dr. Norma L. Hungerford (Crane) leaves behind a rich legacy rooted in her unwavering dedication to education and in her deep connection to the Fennville community. As a descendant of the Fenn family, she carried with her a profound pride in her hometown and the educational foundation she received within the Fennville School System.

Her journey in education began at the Peachbelt One Room Schoolhouse, where her passion for lifelong learning was ignited. This early experience laid the groundwork for her remarkable academic achievements, including earning her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Western Michigan University, followed by a Ph.D. in Education from Michigan State University.

Throughout her career, Dr. Hungerford made significant contributions to education. From her beginnings as an Elementary School Teacher to her tenure as a Professor of Education at WMU, her impact resonates through the generations of students she taught and inspired. Her legacy of lifelong learning lives on in the students and teachers she influenced, instilling in them a passion for continuous growth and development.

Her roles as a Professor in the School of Education at WMU, University Supervisor of Student Teachers, and Coordinator of Participation Field Experiences reflect her commitment to shaping future educators and providing them with the tools they need to educate and empower students. Additionally, her leadership roles within the College of Education underscore her dedication to enhancing curriculum and fostering excellence in teacher preparation programs.

Dr. Hungerford epitomized the essence of a lifelong learner, always seeking new knowledge and experiences to enrich her understanding of the world. Her legacy is an inspiration to all who have had the privilege of learning from her, and her passion for education and lifelong learning is carried on through the lives of those she impacted.

Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Leo H. Banaszak IV has built an extraordinary career in the United States Army, marked by unwavering dedication, exemplary leadership, and an unrelenting commitment to excellence. A distinguished soldier, he has earned widespread respect within the military and his hometown of Fennville.

Throughout his service, CSM Banaszak has demonstrated unparalleled bravery and professionalism. His courageous actions in combat earned him the Bronze Star, awarded for repeatedly risking his life to protect his unit. On one of his deployments his leadership was instrumental in the successful capture of 35 insurgents, a testament to his tactical expertise and steadfast commitment to mission success. In recognition of his exceptional bravery and commitment to service, he was also honored with the Army Commendation Medal with Valor.

CSM Banaszak has achieved the rank of Command Sergeant Major which is the highest enlisted rank in the Army. His current role as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major of the 2^nd Battalion 15^th Field Artillery Regiment (2-15 FA) is a culmination of his last 24 years of dedication and leadership. This prestigious role is a testament to his ability to inspire, mentor, and lead with distinction.

CSM Banaszak served five years in combat deployments supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, demonstrating resilience and fortitude in the face of adversity. His military career has taken him across various duty stations, including Fort Campbell, Fort Polk, Fort Drum, Fort Irwin, Fort Bliss, University of Wisconsin, and Giessen, Germany.

Beyond his military achievements, CSM Banaszak pursued higher education with remarkable dedication. While balancing the rigorous demands of service, he earned an associate degree and a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern State University, and a Master of Science in Management from Excelsior University. Additionally, he completed training at the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, further solidifying his expertise in military leadership and strategic operations.

CSM Leo Banaszak’s journey reflects an unwavering commitment to service, education, and excellence. His ability to lead with strength, courage, integrity, empathy, and selflessness has earned him admiration and respect from his peers, superiors, and community. His story serves as an inspiration to soldiers, students, and citizens alike, demonstrating the power of perseverance, lifelong learning, and dedication to duty.
